An Experience With PEMF Therapy
I'd tried PEMF several times, but randomly and with sessions that were far apart. One morning, after some strenuous yard work the day before, I woke up to severe pain in my shoulder blade area, and just below. This continued for about two weeks before I went to see my massage therapist. I thought at first it was a rotator cuff injury, but we determined that it was more rib oriented, possibly a dislocation.
I had a full session (30 mins) on the PEMF machine. I focused on the pulsing of the machine in the area experiencing pain. In my mind's eye, I was picturing layers un-sticking as interstitial fluid flowed back in, re-establishing conductivity and proper cellular function.
The session did offer immediate relief. The pain was still there, but it was noticeably duller compared to the sharpness present with every cough or sneeze. For the next couple of days, I focused on breathing and stretching, and the pain reduced every consecutive day. Through this regimen, I could feel things moving back into place naturally, and two weeks after the session, I was back to normal, with no pain.
So with one PEMF session, my body healed a moderate to severe rib injury in a matter of two weeks from the session and one month from the injury.
A couple of months later, I started a job that was very physically strenuous. I am getting a little older in life, and my knees apparently were letting me know that they were not as young as I was feeling. I developed severe patellar tendonitis in both knees in a short amount of time. It is also called jumper's knee, and anyone who has experienced it knows it makes simple locomotion difficult.
I did one session about a week after the injury. The inflammation and pain were immediately reduced. The initial healing time forecast was 4-6 weeks; in two and a half weeks, I was moving normally with no pain.
In both instances, one session alleviated immediate symptoms and helped my body to correct the problem in half the time expected.
I decided to learn a little bit more about PEMF. I discovered that the concept is thousands of years old, with a strong relationship to acupuncture and the body's meridians (energy lines). In Chinese and Indian medicine, strengthening or clearing the chi or prana (subtle energy body) is achieved in different ways, one of which includes placing lodestones (magnetized stones) along meridian lines.
Science today has quantified the relationship between the body and the spark of life, soul, chi or prana. "The Scientific Basis of Integrative Medicine", demonstrates how the subtle body system identified as the life force, or what religion calls the soul, has a direct and inextricable relationship to the physical body. By ensuring proper energy flow throughout the body, optimum physical and mental health is both achievable and maintainable.
Energy blockage is a factual description because cells will literally stick together physically and block or severely reduce the flow of blood and transmission of electrical signals. Massage therapy is technically the manipulation of soft tissues to induce muscular and skeletal benefits, leading to improved circulation. Manipulation of the soft tissue is also achieved by PEMF Therapy through electromagnetic means.
By manipulating the soft tissues, these therapies improve blood flow by breaking up the adhesions (knots), allowing the interstitial fluid to flow again, thus improving conductivity, electrical signaling and efficient cellular respiration. Specifically, PEMF facilitates ATP production by assisting the flow of potassium ions into the cell. An established basis for energy work and holistic approaches to healing show that our spiritual or metaphysical health has a direct relationship to our physical health, and vice versa.
